Infant Room Capacity: 8 Infants
Two staff members are needed to operate the infant room when it is at full capacity.
This daily routine is just a guide as we ensure that the needs of infants are met throughout the day. A variety of music is played all day, including ethnic, lullabies, country, African and popular children’s music.
Feeding and diapering time is used as learning and bonding time between staff and child. The staff talks to the children, explaining what they are doing with the use of expressions and songs. This enables or develops trust in infants towards adults.
06:30 am – 09:30 am
Babies arrive, bottles and diaper bags are put away. We take note of any information provided by parents. Feed babies with their bottles (formula or breast-milk) and give them a morning snack as they arrive. Babies who are done, start to play.
09:30 am – 10:30 am
Free play (soft activities, blocks, noise toys, rattles, push & pull toys, nesting & stacking toys, house area, open-ended crafts, play dough, water play, informal story time, puzzles, weather permitting outdoor fun).
10:30 am – 11:15 am
Younger infants are fed lunch and changed.
11:15 a.m.–12:15 p.m.
Older infants clean up and get ready for lunch, while younger infants either play or fall asleep.
12:15 pm – 12:45 pm
Older infants eat lunch, or get diapered and get ready for a nap.
12:45 pm – 3:00 pm
Early risers are taken out of bed at nap time, given a little snack or drink, and given quiet activities (reading a book or doing a puzzle).
3:00 pm – 3:30 pm
All babies are changed.
3:30 pm – 4:00 pm free play (music center, house area, soft blocks, rattles, art, i.e., large crayon coloring & painting, puzzles, water play dough, weather permitting, and outdoor fun).
4:00 pm – 6:00 pm
It’s clean-up time as we make the babies ready to go home. Diapering, informal reading, and quiet activities are done during this time.
Diapering and feeding are done as needed.
